THOROUGH AND THOUGHTFUL ASSESSMENTS WITH ACCURATE DIAGNOSES AND PRECISION TREATMENTS

Our Process

Both Dr. Derrick Pylant and Dr. George Pylant, board-certified periodontists and dental implant specialists in Bedford, believe that the best dental care can only effectively be performed if an accurate, comprehensive assessment and proper diagnoses are made before dental treatment is performed. This is why, in our practice, we require patients to have either a comprehensive or limited examination with us prior to rendering any treatment.

This is our way to get to know you, your dental needs and help you formulate a plan that best achieves your goals and optimizes your dental health.

Evaluation, Findings and Diagnosis

Oral Evaluation

We perform an oral evaluation prior to ordering any dental radiographs. Dental radiographs are often necessary in order to understand the health of your bone and the surrounding structures of your teeth (critical to their function). However, we understand that often the referring doctor or another dentist has taken recent radiographs. We will never recommend additional dental radiographs unless it will definitively provide us with additional information that may impact your diagnosis or treatment planning.

In this practice, we will never recommend any treatment that does not have a direct clinical or diagnostic benefit or use.

Examination Review

After a thorough clinical and radiographic exam, we will take the time to thoroughly walk you through what we discovered about your teeth or mouth during the exam. After reviewing what we have found, we will discuss treatment options as well as the recommended treatment at the time of your first visit.

Dependent on your dental situation and findings, if we feel additional study or workup of your records is needed to give you accurate and definitive treatment options, we will have you back for a follow-up treatment planning appointment.

Allotted Time

In our practice, we typically set aside 60 to 90 minutes for a thorough and precise evaluation for new or existing patients. All dental findings are obtained and reviewed with you by Dr. Derrick Pylant or Dr. George Pylant. They will personally walk you through the various treatment options and recommendations.

Our extended evaluation, exam review and consultation is provided to ensure every patient has the opportunity to learn as much as they can about what is proposed and have all concerns and questions answered by the periodontist.

Throughout your examination, consultation and treatment, our office does everything in our power to ensure you are comfortable and confident in your treatment. If at any time you or your loved one has questions or concerns, please notify our staff as soon as possible.

Treatment Planning and Treatment

Technology & Planning

Both Drs. Pylant believe that the use of advanced dental technology is vital to provide patients with industry-leading care. Every detail of our procedures is pre-planned and vastly improved by cutting-edge diagnostic equipment and technologies. This includes gathering detailed surface images and renderings of your teeth and gums as well as utilizing advanced, low-dose 3D radiographic imaging if necessary.

These diagnostic tools, along with your evaluation, provide a clear understanding of your oral health which allows us to personalize each procedure from a treatment planning perspective.

Personalized Treatment Plans

We believe that all dental treatment should be tailored to each individual patient and situation.

No two treatment plans or procedures are alike.

Our goal is to provide effective, predictable, precise, and long-lasting treatments. Combining years of experience with our advanced technology, our thorough, pre-operative planning allows us to achieve excellent lasting results with minimal discomfort.

Treatment Techniques

In order to provide the best outcomes, treatments may involve the use of biologics, grafting materials, or dental implants.

A common misconception within dentistry is that all dental materials or products perform the same. On occasion, this can be true. But specifically with bone, tissue, biologics and implant products, this could not be further from the truth. Both Drs. Pylant carefully select the ideal materials for your specific clinical situation to maximize effective and minimize discomfort.

Materials & Instrumentation Selection

At Pylant Perio, both Drs. Pylant only utilize the highest quality materials, biologics, and hardware that have a long-standing, proven scientific track record of safety, efficacy, and longevity. Ultimately, we only use products and work with manufacturers that we believe share our commitment to quality and care. We take care to only use products or materials that we would be willing to use on ourselves or a family member.

Follow Up and Maintenance

Treatment Follow-Up & Evaluation

Every procedure needs appropriate follow-up to prevent complications and to evaluate results.

We will often want to see a patient within 2 to 3 weeks following a surgical procedure. If non-surgical treatment was performed, we will want to re-evaluate at 6 to 8 weeks following the procedure date. Both Dr. Derrick Pylant and Dr. George Pylant will help ensure that you have the ideal follow-up schedule to ensure the optimal success of your treatment.

Maintenance Program

The most important part of our process is assisting you in maintaining your teeth through our robust maintenance program.

Far too often, dental care is portrayed as a 'one-and-done' type of experience, which does not reflect reality. A large body of scientific evidence tells us that periodic dental maintenance (cleanings) at 3-month intervals, especially for those with gum disease or those that struggle to maintain adequate oral hygiene levels, is critical to maintaining teeth over time. A 3-month maintenance interval offers countless benefits.

The Benefits of Periodontal and Implant Maintenance

There would be so much less dental disease and work for dentists and periodontists to do if the ideal preventative schedules are followed. This is ultimately the goal - to reduce the amount of dental care that has to occur. We request that all patients alternate cleaning visits with their restorative doctor in order to provide the highest level of care.
